Malkin ZanyThe meeting of different environments is usually where exiting things happen and Malkin zany is a great example of this phenomenon. In this case, three seasoned musicians from different parts of the jazz scene meet one of Denmark’s hip-hop veterans. Through the last eighteen months these four young men have been hard at work creating a record, which is truly unique. It is with great pride that April Records and homeBrew present the debut album from the hands of Malkin Zany. The sound of Malkin Zany is the sound of jazz and breakbeats, broken beat and elegant melodies. Most of the time it is hand played in an electronic kind of way, sometimes cut and computerized in an organic way, but always both beautiful and noisy, groovy and driven. Spaced out in a tightly structured sense. The eclectic and focused sound of Malkin Zany is created by the four musicians working within a live band setup, which otherwise doesn’t exactly dominate the electronic music scene. The band’s one of a kind sound is created by trumpet player Tav Klitgaard, pianist Asger Baden, DJ Steen Rock and drummer Peter Leth, who’ve all worked in numerous other musical constellations. Malkin Zany have put out the Max Roach-penned track Driva Man on the Clubbinhagen compilation (Murena Records), and as a 12" single (homebrew/April) along with remixes by Morten Varano (Slow Train, Puddu Varano, Murena Records), Djosos Krost (Pan Americana, homeBrew) and B & B International (homeBrew). Vocals on the track are by Deborah Herbert. Malkin Zany’s eponymous album was out March 29th on April/VME and have had faboulous reviews from all over the world.
